3.1   Junior Research Scholarship Program


The six-month non-degree program aims to develop the capabilities of doctoral candidates studying at Thai Universities, particularly the university staff members. Grantees will gain research experience in the United States as a part of their doctoral dissertation requirements while building their professional network through contacts with American professors and scholars.

Up to seven grants are available annually, five of which are for the Royal Golden Jubilee’s doctoral students and funded by The Thailand Research Fund (TRF) and two for general doctoral students.

The grant intended to cover round-trip international travel expenses from Thailand to the United States, books and educational supplies, monthly stipend for 6 months, insurance coverage and excess baggage allowance. The Foundation will assist grantees in placement in appropriate programs and universities in the United States., and in obtaining financial aid from host universities.




  1. Be a Thai citizen in good health
  2. Be a doctoral candidate at a Thai university
  3. Be recommended by his/ her employer/home university for consideration
  4. Have the most current transcript issued by the home university
  5. Have a TOEFL score at least 195 (computer-based) or 71 (iBT)
  6. Obtain written confirmation from a U.S. professor/scientist at the host institution whom his/her research will be supervised


Those who hold U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident cards (green cards), or dual (Thailand U.S.) citizenships are not eligible
