    Junior Research Scholarship Program (JRS)

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The six-month non-degree program aims to develop the capabilities of doctoral candidates studying at Thai universities, particularly the university staff members. Grantees will gain research experience in the United States as a part of their doctoral dissertation requirements while building their professional network through contacts with American professors and scholars.

Up to seven grants are available annually, five of which are for the Royal Golden Jubilee’s doctoral students and funded by the Thailand Research Fund (TRF) and two for general doctoral students.

The grant intended to cover round-trip international travel expenses from Thailand to the United States, books and educational supplies, monthly stipend for 6 months, insurance coverage and excess baggage allowance. The Foundation will assist grantees in placement in appropriate programs and universities in the United States., and in obtaining financial aid from host universities.

PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT

June-September

 

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Be a Thai citizen in good health.
  2. Be a university lecturer OR interested persons who are undertaking graduate work at the Ph.D. level in a Thai university
  3. Be recommended by his/ her employer/home university for consideration
  4. Demonstrate strong academic performance at the graduate level
  5. Have appropriate background to undertake the proposal they have outline
  6. Have the concurrence of the university Ph.D. program in which he/she is enrolled
  7. Have a valid TOEFL official score report of 525 or above from a paper-based test (or at least 195 from a computer-based test / 71 from an internet-based test) or have IELTS official score report of 6.5 or above. ITP TOEFL Test is also acceptable
  8. Obtain written confirmation (a letter of invitation) from a U.S. professor/scientist at the host institution that s/he will supervise the research
  9. Be able to take leave from his/her home institution or post
  10. Preferably not have had extensive experience in the United States during the previous 5  years and
  11. Be able to fully participate in every activity organized by Fulbright Thailand, e.g. Preliminary Orientation and Pre-departure Orientation Program which will be held in February and June respectively

INELIGIBILITY

 

Those who hold U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident cards (green cards), or dual (Thailand U.S.) citizenships are not eligible
