Post-Humphrey Reflections

By Ajarn Diyaporn Wisamitanan

In addition to her study and research under Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program, Ajarn Diyaporn Wisamitanan found that she had lots of things to learn and enjoy every day. She was particularly impressed with voluntary service programs at Pennsylvania State University, which she highlighted as good practices for student development activities.

At PSU, vast varieties of voluntary service programs are made available to students (and staffs) in a systematic but simple way. Indeed, voluntary services are easy to join and are included as part of their academic programs (and jobs). In particular, they help raise awareness among students on environmental and energy conservation.

This made Ajarn Diyaporn think of voluntary culture in Thailand. She wished to see it fostered even not in the time of crisis. Being caring people by nature, Thais could be encouraged to extend their hands beyond their own circle to those actually in need.
